FAQ: Unreal Engine

❓ How big is the Unreal Engine Installation?

Installing the Unreal Engine 5.3 for Nominal Editor requires around 39 GB of storage space for the minimum requirements on a Windows 10/11 device. The storage size for other operating systems may be different. This is a requirement for running Nominal Editor and the minimum installation must include the core components and the engine source. The starter content and examples are optional.

❓ Is the Unreal Engine free?

To use the Unreal Engine for Nominal Editor, it is free to use provided you create a free Epic Games account to install the software. Nominal does not have any affiliations with Epic Games and installing the Unreal Engine via the Epic Games launcher is not the responsibility of Nominal Systems.

❓ Upgrading to Unreal Engine 5?

If you previously installed Nominal Editor on an Unreal Engine 4.26 version (v0.7 and below), then you will need to upgrade to the Unreal Engine 5.3 version before using the newer versions (v0.8 and above). This will require a new installation of the Unreal Engine from the Epic Games launcher. However, the code developed in Blueprints in your project can be copied across to the new version of the software and Unreal without any compile errors. Nominal has made sure that the Unreal 4.26 code works correctly in Nominal 5.3.

❓ What are the minimum specifications to run Unreal Engine 5?

For a Windows 10/11 device, the minimum specifications for running UE5, or any of Nominal’s visualization programs, include a quad-core CPU, 8 GB of RAM and DirectX 11 or 12 compatible graphics card with the latest drivers. For a MacOS device, it is expected that the device can run MacOS 13 Ventura or higher. More details can be found in the Unreal page below:
